Resurrection – A Short Liturgy

Sam Hardman

“…have you not read in the book of Moses, in the passage about the bush, how God spoke to him, saying, ‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not the God of the dead, but of the living….” (Mark 12:26-27)

Resurrection – A Short Liturgy

Leader: Father in heaven, You have made us

not to die, but to live;

not for mortality, but for immortality.

All:          You have put eternity in our hearts

and we cannot be content

with any lesser hope

than the one you have given:

the redemption of our bodies – [Rom. 8:23]

bodies made gloriously fit

to bear the weight of souls

pulsing with the life of heaven.

Leader: What a stunning destiny You have promised!

That we should be equal to the angels – [Luke 20:36 ESV]

sons of God and sons of the resurrection.

All:          The wounds of this present war, then,

are but reminders that these bodies

will return to dust.

But we believe

that though they are sown in weakness, [1 Cor. 15:43

You will raise them in power;

that we will be changed; 15:51

that the mortal will put on immortality; 15:53

that death is an already vanquished enemy 15:54]

and glory awaits.

Leader: With hearts full of thanksgiving and praise,

All:          we bow before You in worship.

And we go forth in joy-filled hope,

knowing and believing

that the pain and decay we now endure

are not the end.

Our Lord and King has died and is risen

that we too might rise – made like Him.

Praise and honor and glory be to You, O God,

and to the Son of Your love

Who bought us with His own blood,

both now and forevermore!

Amen.
